LNG Ship repairs and Dry docking
During 2020 HRDD and BSA were nominated to dry dock three LNG ships from the reputable Norwegian ship owner Knutsen OAS – all involving LNG tankers (GTT Membrane type).

These three vessels were the first Norwegian-operated LNG tankers repaired at HRDD and China. The first was the 173,400 m3 Sevilla Knutsen in May/June, which was followed by her sistership Ribera del Duero Knutsen in July/August. The third vessel was another sistership – the Valencia Knutsen which was repaired during September/October.

All three vessels were built in South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME). Apart from general repairs, all three vessels also underwent the installation of BWM systems and were all redelivered on schedule despite the COVID-19 situation.

HRDD has manifested their position in China as the leading and preferred shipyard for repairs and dry docking of LNG vessels from International customers.

HRDD has taken the lead among Chinese shipyards for LNG dry docking and repairs. The preparations for LNG ship repairs started several years ago. The company organized a special group to set up a Specialist Service Network system, and trained the personnel in groups, which is now most appreciated by LNG ship owners.

In order to complete the repairs tasks safely, on time and with high quality, HRDD organized their LNG team to study each single-ship project long time before each ships arrival.

In addition, many HSE preparations, such as detailed HSE safety planning and cargo tank safety construction management system, strengthening construction attendees boarding training, and clear up safety equipment were prepared in details.

The shipyard has also arranged and prepared project teams with relevant key personnel from concerned shipyards different departments, hired experienced LNG ship professional persons as consultants, to participate in the LNG project management, striving to achieve good construction, management and safety control.

The management attention, detailed planning and production schedule, the key node control, the strict quality supervision, and high construction standard, both vessels were completed safely, on time and with high quality, which was recognized and much appreciated by the owner.

These repairs has laid a solid foundation for HRDD to realize the vision of building the preferred repair base for International LNG ship owners in China.
